Ellie Simmonds By G4

The Extraordinary Ellie
Have you heard of Ellie Simmons? That amazing Paralympic swimmer? Well by the end of this you will have a brain filled with information! Ellie Simmonds was born on the 11th of November 1994. She suffered from a a form of Dwarfism, which makes people grow slowly and not for very long. You will probably find lots of stools in her house.

Childhood
When Ellie was a child she went to a Private Primary School, but she didn't enjoy it. Ellie's favourite subjects were PE and Art and her least favourite subjects were Maths and  English, because she didn't understand it and to her they were pretty boring subjects. Annoying things for her were movi ng schools ans houses and not making friends easily. Ellie made me realise how being small is just the beginning.

Challenges Ellie has to Face
Ellie Simmonds has faced many challenges. I will tell you about a few of them. The first challenge for Ellie was her Dwarfism. Dwarfism is very hard to deal with because firstly you are quite short, well shorter than other people. With Dwarfism you cannot reach many things, this is why you will find many stools in Ellie's kitchen. Secondly, when you're shorter than other people you can get teased quite a lot. Sometimes you would be able to get a teacher to come and help you, but when your're on your own it would be quite hard. Ellie Simmond's third challenge was trying to reach things. Imagine having to ask for a magazine, just so you can flick through it, and then having to ask someone to put it back for you.

Ellie's Tough Times
Dwarism was a very difficult challenge for Ellie because it prevented her from doing certain things. Since she was very short, it made it very hard to find an enjoyable swimming club. To qualify to be a Paralympic athlete she had to successfully swim 400m in 6.2 minutes. She was afraid that people would start to tease her because of her height. Ellie Simmonds never gave up and strived to do her best, which is a lesson we can all learn from.

Amazing Achievements of Ellie
So far you can see that Ellie has had a very interesting life. But that's not the full story. Ellie has accomplished some spectacular wonders that you will find out about very soon. When she was 13 Ellie was selected for world class swimming. Ellie swam in her first British Junior Championships and won all seven races. Another achievement for Ellie was being awarded with the 2008 BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year Award, what an achievement! These are precious achievements for Ellie.
