What makes a Good Recount?

WALT: Identify the features of a recount.
WALT: Construct the success criteria for a powerful recount.

On Wednesday we watched a slideshow about what a powerful recount needs...
We then read a recount that Miss Slater wrote about her first skydive. We worked with a buddy to see if she had used any special features in her writing such as adjectives, similes and the 5Ws and 1H.

Today we read three more recounts in our desk groups. We had to highlight any special features that we noticed, decide which one was the best recount and justify our decision (we learned that justify means explain or back up).

The girls were working together in the Reading Castle

The 'All Blacks' were deep in thought

The 'Superstars' working together

The 'ADOLI Lollipops'

The 'Vicious Vampire' listened and shared ideas together

We then presented our findings to the class, we had to show which recount we thought was best and justify why. Here are 'The Superstars' presenting their findings...

After hearing each group we decided that when we write a recount it will need to include the following things:

- A descriptive title
- A introduction - 5W and 1H
- Time words - first, next, a few minutes later

- Awesome adjectives and verbs
- Personal voice - I was as shaking like a leaf
- Be written in the past tense
- Be paragraphed
- Sum up the event with a conclusion

Tomorrow we will begin to write a recount of our own with a buddy
